Golf

Voted as one of the leading destinations for golf by the International Golf Tour Operators Association, Dubai has the tranquillity, climate and style to produce courses that beg to be played on. Surrounded by crystal clear waters, rippling deserts and a sleek skyline, you’ll be in no better place to lose yourself in 18 holes.

Avid golf fans will want to visit the Emirates Golf Club, home of the Dubai Desert Classic, and one of the oldest golf venues. Many prestigious championships occur in Dubai, so check your calendar before booking a holiday if you fancy getting involved.

There’s a wide range of courses to try out while you’re in Dubai, and the majority will supply you with equipment if you couldn’t fit your golf clubs in your suitcase! Most courses offer cheaper rates between Sunday and Wednesday, so scout out the course you’re interested in before you book.

Playing golf in the desert is a surreal experience, and one that everyone should try at least once. Head to the Arabian Ranches Golf Club for 18 holes over natural desert terrain: the bunkers’ fine sand and sprouts of scrub grass make for a challenging, yet enjoyable experience for any golfer. For something closer to home, head to The Montgomerie Golf Club, one of Dubai’s finest greens, and built to closely resemble Scottish courses. The Montgomerie is home to the world’s largest green, at 58,000 sq feet!

Al Badia Golf Club and The Els Club both combine desert landscapes with beautiful water elements and perfectly manicured greens: ideal for any golfer to soak up the sun and surrounding views. Jumeirah boasts two immaculate courses: Jumeirah Golf Estates Earth Course, and Jumeirah Golf Estates Fire Course. Earth is the home of the DP World Tour Championship, while Fire is identical to the best sand belt courses in Australia and the UK.

Last but not least are the Emirates Golf Courses, Majlis and Faldo. Majlis hosts the international Dubai Desert Classic, and is stunning with its Bedouin tents, scores of flora and fauna, and naturally rugged landscape.

Whatever your ability, golf in Dubai is a must-do for any visitor: the perfect weather and perfect courses will soon make you realise why it’s one of the world’s best destinations for the game.
